Creative Philosophy

Artist Statement

I was raised amidst the prairie scenes I loved so much in rural Alberta and Saskatchewan. The vast skies, rolling wheat fields, and dramatic sunsets shaped my earliest visual memories. I presently reside in Kelowna, surrounded by the Okanagan Valley, and have developed a new appreciation for the never ending mountain views, lake vistas, orchards and vineyards.

For me, the creative process is more important than the finished product. I enjoy painting with strong colors, textures and bold movements, letting my paintings evolve from within me.

My style consists of realistic and abstract images from natural landscapes and the human form, as well as just allowing myself the freedom to play with no idea where my brushstrokes will lead me, enjoying the moment. Each canvas becomes a conversation between intention and intuition.

I studied Fine Arts at the University of Saskatchewan and at UBC Okanagan. I have also attended various workshops at Red Deer Art College, Kelowna Art Gallery, Dundas Valley Art School and The Kenderdine Art Campus at Emma Lake. My studies include Drawing, Painting, Photography and Printmaking, but my main love is Painting.

Mixed Media Landscape Abstraction Figurative Intuitive Process

I enjoy portraying landscapes, figures, and abstracts using a variety of mediums. The connection between the prairie skies of my childhood and the mountainous horizons of my adult life continues to inform my work, a dialogue between flat expanses and vertical drama, between memory and present moment.

"The creative process is a journey of discovery — each brushstroke reveals something new, even to the artist."
